Build Your Immune System In Cold and Flu Season

Other than a vaccine, How do I change my Immune system?

Poor Sleep can affect the immune system.

Research shows that Adults who are not sleeping well or not sleeping 7-8 hours a night are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus. This happens because the cytokines produced to defeat these viruses are low if lack of sleep or poor quality sleep occur. The research also shows that kids age 3-20 need closer to 10 hours of sleep per night for the same protective effect.

How do I train myself to sleep better? Or My Kids?

This is always a hot topic. Sleep deprivation is as dangerous if not more dangerous than driving under the influence. So how do we change your outcomes?

  1. Start by setting an alarm on when it is time to go to bed. Regardless of what you are doing, stop, finish in less than 5 minutes and go to your bedroom to get ready and get into bed.
  2. Stop using electronics, including a kindle or iPad to read, after 7pm. Studies show that the stimulation from the blue light on devices like computers, television, tablets, and cell phones disrupt the normal cycle of melatonin production. This disrupts the brain’s ability to shut down and calm. That lack of calm can cause difficulty sleeping.
  3. Get up at the same time EVERYDAY. Yes, even on the weekend. This is important because you’re teaching your body a cycle. When you get up, try not to hit snooze. Around time changes, the week leading in, start adjusting your alarm setting by 10 minutes daily so that you can adjust your body to the new time.
  4. Stop all caffeine: tea, coffee, chocolate, stimulants in supplements; by 12 noon, or 9 hours before bed time.
  5. Drink more water. One of the major causes of poor sleep at altitude is dehydration. Drinking more water can help your body rest more fully because it has enough solution to dilute the toxins it is processing and producing while you sleep. If you have a weak bladder and find yourself needing to wake up to go to the bathroom, stop drinking sooner in the day. As people are drinking more water, I ask them to do it gradually. So take what you have now and add 8oz to the day every day for a week. Then next week add 8 oz more. Do this Every week until you are drinking enough water (80oz/day).
  6. Exercise. This helps expend some of the energy you have and can help your body rest more fully.

Did you know that there are more heart attacks, strokes and Motor vehicle accidents in the 2 weeks after the time change in the fall AND spring? Sleep Rules!

Supplements: What you need to know for immune health.

A lot of people have no faith in supplements. The reason is the difference in the information about supplements. Some say they do nothing, some say they are necessary. Here is what you need to know about supplements: They are not all created equal, but they are mostly all created in the same spot and sent for labeling. Test your supplements. If it can not dissolve in 4 oz of white vinegar in 4 hours, your body can not get out what it needs from the supplement. Find the parent company. If they are a traditional Pharmaceutical company, the supplement is likely more valid. For instance: Whos is the parent company of Flinstones Vitamins?

Wish supplements help for boosting my health in relation to the immune system?

Vitamin C, D3 and B6 are considered the classic trio needed to boost immune system health.

  • B vitamins help the nervous system, creates red blood cells and helps metabolize carbohydrates and fats.
  • C is an antioxidant and fights for the body.
  • D Helps absorb calcium, phosphorus, and is the backbone to MOST hormones produced by the body.

Probiotics.

While controversial, Probiotics are needed to help restore the gut. The gut is the primary place your immune system acts. Immune system is 80% in the GI system. Like other supplements, Probiotics have become a popular place to deceive. Make sure you by doctor formulated probiotics that require refrigeration.

Consider Pre-Biotics and digestive enzymes. They help break down the food and get enzymes present that you need to break things down before you get it into the gut.

ZINC

This is a mineral that you need in the body to help with many processes. IT helps fight invading bacteria and viruses. Dosage is 8g for women, 11 for men daily. The problem is, you can start to taste everything as metal. This means you need to back off the dose and then start taking a binding agent like psyllium husk powder so that you don’t overdose on metals.

Eat healthy!

Cold and flu season kicks up in winter months, but they are there year round. One thing that happens in the warmer months is that the opportunity for fresh fruits and vegetables is more readily available at more favorable prices. Green leafy vegetables are a daily need. You should strive to achieve 10 servings a day and 5 servings of fruits. A serving is ½ cup.

Lower your sugar intake.

Many use the holidays, starting at halloween, as an excuse to eat whatever they want. Then, wonder why they get sick. The increase in sugar causes bad bacteria, like candida, to grow and overtake good bacteria in the gut. You can fight candida by taking a supplement called sacchromyces boulardi, but what if you just ate reasonably? I am not saying give up your one piece of pumpkin pie or the cranberry sauce. But do you need all the cookies, candy, half the pumpkin pie, etc?

What Are Collateral Damages of Pandemic 2020 Lockdowns and Shutouts?

SUICIDE and MENTAL HEALTH

I have the fortune of having clients who work in the public health sector and law enforcement sector. They have reported an increase in calls for suicide prevention. Nationally, the numbers for teen suicide and young adult suicide are elevated.

So what are the issues with an increase in Mental Health?

In my area, I have had some clients do voluntary check ins for 48hour -30 days holds due to their own struggles for mental health in the time of this pandemic. The cost of Joblessness, Isolation and anxiety is high. Studies from multiple institutions show that anxiety even in young children is higher than typical.

Our Family has been personally touched by suicide during this time.

If you are struggling, Please Visit this website

Domestic Violence

According to a Study in Massachusetts at a Womens hospital, Domestic violence between intimate partners is increased by 500% when compared to each of the 3 previous years. That is a fairly staggering statistic, especially when you consider that these are the reported cases. There are many more who suffer in silence because they believe it is related only to the stress of the current situation. Or, it has never happened before. The sentiment of “They said they were sorry” often prevents people from talking about violence as well.

In the case of abuse or neglect of children, some of the Law Enforcement officers have reported that they are more concerned than ever, because schools are a safe haven for many children. Locking them out has taken away their support system. They expect to see number of cases reported skyrocket with the return to the classroom. In some cases, dreading that return to the classroom, while also looking forward to helping these kids out of bad Situations.

According to a study published in the BC Medical Journal:

Previous pandemics have had children as the top victims. They report that the number one cause of childhood death is Abuse from Family or Friend. Children are more likely during quarantine to experience neglect, sexual abuse, physical abuse, seeing abuse against a  parent, and emotional abuse.

Long term effects of abuse on children under the age of 15 lead to behavior issues and learning issues along the continuum. These children are less likely to develop meaningful relationships. They are less likely to trust others. Less likely to talk about what is happening at home. And social workers have been advised to minimize interventions as to lessen contact with others outside their own home.

Education Suffers, But is closing schools necessary?

Last spring, millions of students suffered with a sudden and unprepared shift to online education. While a few districts across the country managed this transition well, most did not. Our 3rd grade students, who are on a special education plan,  had 90 minutes of instruction per day with no way to contact their teacher about questions. While they are supposed to get a specific number of hours per week with the Special Education Team by LAW, they had no contact. No Support, and lost ground in so many ways. Their primary teacher did not reach out to the SPED team to indicate a struggle was happening at all. We, as parents, received an email 4 weeks in that assignments were incomplete or not done at all. When I asked what needed to be done for one assignment, it took 24 hours to get a response. Unacceptable.

Risk of Transmission

We’ve been told to follow the science. Follow the Data. Follow the correct information. But shutting down schools is not supported by the science or the data. In fact, if we truly follow all the data back to the 1918 Spanish flu (H1N1); quarantine and mask wearing is a bad idea in general.

So where does that leave the kids and education?

Again following the data, The EU says we should re-open at a minimum primary education centers. That student to teacher transmission rates were less than 0.1%. That the students were more likely to contract the virus while at home than in the classroom.

The EU has also taken into account the cost to underserved children and homes with lower incomes. They have decided that the cost of not being in the classroom is high. With working parents who have “Essential Jobs” like cleaning, housekeeping, Nursing, Physician, Physical Therapy and Grocery clerks; it was too difficult for the family unit to have the children at home. The lack of social development by not interacting with same aged peers was also deemed to be too great. That being at home, isolated, could cause anxiety to occur at earlier ages. Causing more harmful mental health issues in adolescence and young adulthood.

In Finland, Where school has continued without interruption, there are 1.2 million students and staff. Less than 200 have tested positive for Covid-19

Here is History on recent Pandemics and Quarantine:
  • 1918 Spanish Flu (H1N1) variation of influenza A
    • Infected approximately 500Million people (1/3 worlds population of 1.5 billion)
    • US population was 102,300,000.
    • Deaths world wide: 50 Million
    • Deaths in the US: 675,000; 564,000 in the first 8 months while states and cities quarantined.
    • Quarantine was put in place in several states and also individual cities where states did not have policies
    • masks were required in public
    • hand washing highly encouraged to be regularly completed.
    • Highest mortality was <5 yoa, 20-40 yoa and greater than 65 yoa.
  • 1957/58 Pandemic (H2N2) Variation of influenza A
    • No Quarantine
    • Hand washing encouraged
    • No Masks
    • Stay home if you feel vulnerable.
    • 2.9 billion people worldwide,
    • 174.9 Million in the US
    • Deaths Worldwide: 1.1 Million
    • Deaths in the US 116,000
  • 1968/69 (H3N2) Variation of Influenza A
    • No Quarantine
    • CDC said you should be out if you felt comfortable, as exposure would actually boost the immune system
    • 3.5 Billion people WorldWide
    • 200 Million people in the US
    • 1 million Deaths worldwide
    • 100,000 deaths in the US
    • Wood Stock Held in August 1969, right in the middle of the pandemic.

If we go by the data shown above, Pulled from the CDC website on pandemics, we are in for a lot more carnage. Currently, we have 7.59 Billion people world wide, 328 million in the United States.  IF we look at the data from the 1918 Spanish flu and extrapolate, 1.2 million US citizens will die. That means that as of writing this article, we are less than 25% of the way.

YES, medical has advanced. But we haven’t cured anything in this country since small pox.

What happened to the Flu?

Currently, the CDC says flu numbers are low. But flu testing is also around 1/100th its normal numbers. So how do we know?

If you have had the experience of having a test done, look at your results. Your test can say either Coronavirus or COVID-19 PCR test results. The Corona Virus test tests for ALL corona virus, including cold or flu. A Positive test is NOT a Positive COVID test. Yet many Point of Care Facilities are reporting these numbers as such. So our infection rate is sky high, while likely being false + for COVID and false reporting of COVID.

Which of these tests did you get?

Coronavirus test
+ results must be followed up with Flu Test or PCR test to rule in COVID19

PCR Molecular test specific to COVID-19
This + Result is the most likely indicator that COVID19 is present. You can still have false + and or False – tests.

Cancer:

Research Published in JAMA reported that since the start of the pandemic, Cancer diagnosis dropped 74%

The Breast Cancer Awareness month reported a decrease of 54% of new cases From April 2020-October 2020

Colorectal cancer diagnosis was down at least 31% in the same time frame.

Pancreatic cancer diagnosis was down by 25%

Lung cancer, and Esophageal cancer detection was also down according to the study

Cause: Routine screenings were either cancelled, could not be rescheduled this calendar year, or people were to afraid to go out and get them.

As you can see, The cost of the pandemic to health has a lot of collateral damage.

Please do your research and know the facts.

Vaccination, Injury Reports, Schedules and Allergies

Vaccines are NOT an attempt to harm our children

That being said, you can find a group for everything.

There are people who believe that vaccines have caused autism, birth defects, and behavioral issues in all children and should be removed from the market.

The truth is that some vaccines are causing a problem in SOME people. I am NOT an anit-vaxer, I am a firm believer that the schedule should be changed though.

Vaccine Schedule Birth to age 18

According to the schedule, there are 26 vaccines prior to 18 months of age.

As a new mom, I found this terrifying. Particularly because I had premature white male twins. One had a kidney problem at birth that we were aware of. The other was low birthweight, in the NICU and on Oxygen. There is a syndrome that has been nicknamed “Wimpy White Boy” that is due to a collection of data on premature babies. In the case studies, they found that premature white males of low birth weight or other complications were less likely to breastfeed, More likely to need interventions, More likely to have complications in later toddler years.

What is wrong with the schedule?

Everything. Some of them specifically recommend not getting them if allergic to things like dairy or poultry. Yet these things are not introduced in the diet until one year of age. Why then, are we giving a vaccine at 3 months old?? How would you know if your child has an allergy if they have never had the product? Some of the vaccines also have mercury based preservative. Mercury thermometers were removed from the market because of the danger of ingestion. But we inject it into our children?? We are told to avoid fish while pregnant because the mercury content is too high. But we inject it into our children??

Mercury is known to have significant negative side effects on the development of children. It can cause neurological conditions. It has significant negative effects on the digestive tract and immune systems. Mercury has also been reported to negatively affect Lungs, kidneys, skin and eyes. Yet we inject them with this substance 26 times before 18 months.

What is Herd Immunity?

Herd immunity is the tipping point at which the “herd” is protected because a specific number is vaccinated for/against or has had a virus. This innate protection comes because the carrier’s bodies fight off the disease and can then protect those unvaccinated.

The rate at which herd immunity is achieved varies by disease and ranges from a need of 33% to 95%. That is a big number on the high end. The other problem is that Anti-Vaxers will tell anyone who will listen that Herd Immunity is only achieved by obtaining the disease, not through vaccination according to studies in cattle.

If Herd immunity is needed to eradicate disease, what are the follow ups?

Vaccine Schedule Adult 19+

Did you know you should be re-vaccinated? Multiple times? Did you know there was a schedule? If you are pro vaccination, did you get your most recent shot? Did you ask your primary care doctor what was recommended? Did you talk about family planning and when you should or should not get certain vaccines?

Maybe it’s time.

You can have a test called a titer test run to see if you are lacking antibodies for specific vacinatable diseases. The question is, Will you?

If you have a child under age 5 did you require everyone coming into contact with your child to get the whooping cough vaccine? I did. And thank goodness. When the Twins were 5, my in laws both contracted the disease from friends. Luckily my husband and I as well as our twins were vaccinated against the respiratory illness.

Fast Tracked Vaccines.

Are they safe? I am not so sure either way. What I can say is that most of the vaccines in circulation today have lots of testing behind them. Some of the researchers of a specific vaccine have said they’d rather chance the disease than the vaccine. The vaccine was pushed to market too quickly. This one for COVID-19 will be a true test of the medical system because our Frontline Workers will be the first to be given the vaccine. The second round will be the elderly over age 65. Then they will look at who is next. I am not sure I will say yes to this one. I say no to the flu vaccines. I do that because the last time I had one, I was hemorrhaging 12 hours later and almost miscarried. With a previous flu shot i was not so lucky. I have already contacted the kids school to opt out of this vaccine for them as well.

This is a serious decision you need to make for you and your family.

This blog is not an attempt to profile anyone. It is an attempt to educate. If you are not sure what vaccines are safe for you and your family, ask. If you are unsure what steps you should take, set up an appointment and ask the tough questions.

Incentivized Payments in This Pandemic

There is a Huge Argument between Healthcare and Sickcare in the United States.

Many Americans are having trouble distinguishing what healthcare actually is. They pay for an insurance company to cover the bills that they have regarding health, but every year it covers less and less. They don’t feel like they have options to choose providers that are listed as being the best. They feel like they are strangled in choosing a procedure, prescription, and even if they should get testing done to see if a medication or procedure is necessary. The hoops one must jump through to achieve a diagnosis take longer and longer each year. The insurance layers to gain access to appropriate care or the prescription that the physician recommended instead of some other brand or different drug has affected the ability to recover.

Unfortunately, SARS-COV2 may be even worse.

On March 27th, 2020 information was released that was part of the COVID19 Stimulus Bill. It reported that facilities would receive 20% more than typical reimbursement for positive COVID19 cases. If such a case ended up on a ventilator, the increased in reimbursement with be $39,000. 3x’s the normal reimbursement. Senator Jensen of Minnesota said in a statement on April 8th,

“Nobody can tell me after 35 years in the world of medicine that sometimes those kinds of things impact on what we do.”

He did later say that he doesn’t believe that all decisions were made based on this reimbursement, but he believes that cases are over reported. There were some indications that he believes that the Point of Care cases were over reported and flu cases under reported.

IF you remember the blog from Nov 30th, I talked about the different types of tests. The most common test done does not rule out the common cold or flu. It simply tests for all coronavirus.

So, if this is true…..the number of cases of the flu are under-reported, cases of SARS-COV2 are over reported and we are not being cared for the way we need or expect as the American Public.

A Nurse comes Forward

On May 5th a nurse from Nevada, who had willingly traveled to New York to help relieve some of the stress of overwhelmed medical providers, put a video up on YouTube.

In the video she claims that they are murdering people in the most affected low income, minority hospital in New York. She talks about the fact that people were being defibrillated while they still had a pulse of 40BPM. This is significantly contraindicated and will cause cardiac arrest (heart stop). She states that a patient died waiting for an x-ray because the ventilator tube was not in place. They could not breath on their own. She told the anesthesiologist and the warning went ignored. There is also the discussion about the pressures on the ventilators being higher by 20% than they should be given normal human lungs. Reporting on a case where a feeding tube was placed into the lungs instead of the stomach as well. The mother of two traveled from Nevada to New York to assist. Like hundreds of others. She said that they had plenty of assistance by the time of the video and yet mistakes that were being blamed on over worked and too tired were simply negligence and mismanagement.

This woman was not the only one affected. The protocols placed by administration of the hospitals were not what most of the providers thought were a good idea. There have been an increase in Medical Provider suicide since the start of COVID-19 protocols.

Protocols to improve Finances don’t always mean Best Care

This past decade has brought about more and more Direct to Patient Care, Concierge or Hybrid type Practices. There are some who will say that this shift was due to the ACA Healthcare Bill, but as a provider, I Know it is about more. I have had the opportunity over the past 4 years to interview physicians and other providers who have made the switch. The common theme among them is that they have to see too many people and they don’t actually get to practice medicine anymore. The Popularity of Alternative Medicine currently also paints the picture of what Americans Desire.

Physicians don’t want to see 30 patients a day, neither do physical therapists, surgeons, cardiologist, chiropractors, etc. Yet with declining reimbursement, more hoops for pre-authorization and less autonomy when recommending medication and protocols, this is reality. That is why so many are jumping ship and quitting the profession entirely or moving to concierge direct to patient models.

What happened to that new disease Vaping Lung? or even Influenza?

Do you remember back to January of 2020 the stories of vaping lung disease that was affecting young people. Particularly those who used flavored vape pens? What ever happened with that? My guess is that some of the negative tests where people have died of respiratory symptoms, have been attributed to COVID19, even if it was this instead. Senator Jensen believed this was the case of a 38 year old male who tested negative twice, did admit that he vaped, died of respiratory symptoms, but cause on Death Certificate was attributed to COVID-19.

It also seems that no one has the traditional flu anymore, even though we can trace influenza A and B outbreaks back to 1889 with certainty, and likely back 500 years.

What Is Coronavirus?

Why the Hype about Coronavirus?

When the pandemic first started you could see a lot of misinformation spreading. There were those that new other corona viruses existed and those that didn’t. Some would post pictures of Lysol cans on the internet and say “see, nothing to worry about. Lysol kills this so its not new.” Others would look at that same label and say “Lysol is just trying to make money.”

Here is what you need to know. Some form of Coronavirus Causes Most Colds and Flus.

In fact, there are 4 different types of corona virus that cause common colds. They are more prevalent in cooler months, but are present year round. Hence “Summer Colds”. The most common way you contract them is by touching surfaces that have been contaminated, someone coughing or sneezing, sharing cups, etc..

Symptoms of any coronavirus include: Runny Nose, Headache, sore throat, Mild to moderate fever, cough and sneezing, Chills. More aggressive symptoms can include Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, body aches and fatigue. If you have any of these symptoms, it is important to use a facemask in public if you have to go out. You should avoid public places if you are running a fever, unless you are going to seek medical treatment.

On the CDC Website, You can look at data covering the last decade on reports of number of tests reported to the CDC, number of cases of influenza treated and reported in the season, number of hospitalizations and number of deaths from the disease. Most hospitalizations occur because the virus progresses into pneumonia. Pneumonia causes inflammation in the air sacs in the lungs. This causes fluid to accumulate. That means that oxygen can not be produced to be utilized by the body. There are approximately 3 million cases of Pneumonia each year in the United States.

What’s Different about Sars-COV2?

In a previous blog on November 20, 2020 I talk about the fact surrounding the current pandemic and what you should know. This is a continuation.

The Main Difference is Severity of symptoms. However, the addition of loss of Taste and Smell is of significant note. It can persist for months after the person has recovered from immediate symptoms as well. Another note is that while children with the flu may experience nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, with SARS-COV2, this is more common across all age groups.

Testing: WHAT IS BEST?

Traditionally, about 60% of persons in the US with symptoms of cold and flu receive a standard flu test each year. Tests for flu virus usually are a nasopharyngeal rapid test with results in as little as 15 minutes. This test has been fairly specific at 90%, but only 70% sensitive, meaning you can get up to 30% either false positive or false negative tests. Tests like this have been available since the 1990’s. If the rapid test is positive, the Point of Care provider will likely prescribe some antiviral. Ask you to drink plenty of fluids, Remain home, Rest and do some light activity. It has been shown that light cardiovascular activity can reduce the risk of pneumonia and decrease time of symptoms of cold and flu.

You will likely also be asked to make sure you are following proper hygiene. This means frequent hand washing. Handwashing should be done for at least 20 seconds and cover all surfaces of the hand including under the fingernails. It should be done before and after each meal. Any time hands come into contact with the face. Always after using the restroom.

Testing for SARS-COV2 can be done in 3 ways, but one way is more effective.

First test is the Antigen test.

It is the most common test currently used in the United States. It is very similar to the Flu test in that it is a nasopharyngeal swab. Results come in a few hours to a day. The test is given at Point of Care facilities and Providers. These include Urgent Cares, Primary Care Doctors, Pediatricians and most Emergency Rooms. The test is done because it is the least expensive, Results come quickly and it is then easy to report. However, the test is not as specific to SARS-COV2 according to the FDA.Gov website. A positive test is likely positive for cold, flu, or COVID-19 and should be followed up.

Second is the Molecular PCR test.

This test is both highly sensitive and specific. It can take up to 1 week to get results. The test is also a Nasopharyngeal swab, but includes saliva testing as well. If you have a positive test at a Point of Care facility, you should ask for it to be followed up with a molecular test before it is reported to the county health department to rull in COVID-19 versus traditional Flu.

Third is the Antibody test.

While antibody testing is not recommended to actually diagnose an active case of the SARS-COV2 virus, it can catch the presence of it if you have had mild symptoms for approximately 2 weeks. According to the FDA.Gov website, best testing for actually accounting for positive cases would be a combination of the molecular PCR test and the Antibody Test.

What Do I Do Now?

If you feel like you have Flu or Cold Like symptoms, call your primary care provider in the first 48 hours to get a FLU TEST. If it is positive, you can be given antivirals right away and begin recovery. If it is negative, then you can ask for and insist on the Molecular PCR test.

Stay Home!! Recover away from family, including spouse or partner. Most cases of cold and flu take 7-10 days. Non-hospitalized SARS-COV2 are averaging 3-4 weeks.

Clean up after yourself! Wash hands thoroughly. Wipe down surfaces that you touch with gloved hands after washing them using a disinfectant wipe.

Try and do 20 minutes of walking daily.

Drink Plenty of Fluids.

If you are going to miss work in your recovery, ask your employer about their short term disability policy through the Human Resources Department. There are likely a specific number of days in a row that you need to be absent prior to qualifying. If you come back at day four and go back out at day 6, the process starts over. You want to be mostly symptoms free for 2-3 days before returning to work.

What is a PANDEMIC and Why Should you look Deeper into the Facts

2020 has been an Unprecedented year

In November of 2019 we started hearing about the Current SARS-CoV2 as it spread through China.

At the time, we were already in our ridiculously long election cycle that now lasts about 20 months.

In March New York and areas of CA were overwhelmed with cases. By April, most of the country had gone into lockdown.

But why?

This will be the first of a few blogs talking about this pandemic in comparison to others that have happened throughout the history of time as we know it. Really particularly looking at the last 150 years.

Since 1889, We have had 7 pandemics that are of real note in regards to the Corona Type Viruses or Flu and Influenza. During one such pandemic, the United States actually held one of the most iconic Music Festivals in modern history. Can you guess which one I am talking about? Here is a hint, it happened in 1969.

Let’s first address the conspiracy theories that there is a pandemic every election cycle, but only seems to affect one party.

2004 SARS Virus:

First off, there were 8 cases in the US in 2003. 1 Death. All 8 persons had traveled abroad. It did not spread in the US and the only mention politically was the need for increased diplomacy and support between US and China.

2008 AVIAN FLU:

The first time this virus reached the world was actually in 1990. It has a total of 5 world wide spreads. It continues to be in circulation and it was only briefly addressed as a reason to strengthen international support of each country affected and work together to support the people of the world.

2009 Swine Flu (H1N1):

NOT AN ELECTION YEAR. The CDC actually referred to it as the first Real Pandemic in 40 years. Mostly because the two previous stayed in their respective countries of origin as significantly damaging. This particular flu season in the US was one of the deadliest on record prior to the current pandemic and that of 1918.

2012 MERS:

Much to people’s disappointment, this did NOT come from China. It was first discovered in Camels in Saudi Arabia and passed to humans who were in direct contact with infected animals. It was most common in underserved communities with lack of medical team access. Only 2 Cases reached the US.

2014 EBOLA:

though not a flu virus was used in the midterm elections to degrade the opposition. Both parties threw Mud. Neither should have because there were 2 Cases in the US. In 2018 there were additional cases totaling 8 from people that had traveled to the two countries in Africa that had outbreaks.

2016 ZIKA:

Also not a flu virus. It is contracted through bite of infected insect or unprotected sex with someone infected. Originated in 1956. There were approximately 5200 cases in the US and President Obama asked for $1.8Billion to fight it and prevent spread. The bill took 7 months to pass. Congress dragged its feet. Both Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump brought it up while campaigning. Republicans had control of the senate at the time. One party said it was a purposeful stall to affect election results. The other said it was a failure of the President to serve the people. Again, mud slinging.

2019/20:

SARS-CoV2 proves to be the centerpiece of election slander. One party says it’s a failure of Republicans in not approving bailout and poor management and leadership from the top. The other says it’s a Hoax and nothing more than the Flu. And we are managing it differently than all previous pandemics.

Viruses always run a course. They are really difficult in the first two years, then immunity is built in the community. Viruses can not be treated with antibiotics, but can be treated with antivirals. Antivirals are really aggressive on the body and are targeted to decrease symptoms and duration of symptoms. They can cause Nausea, Dizziness, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Nervousness and Poor Concentration.

If you run a fever above 100.1, you should stay home. Don’t engage with anyone outside your nuclear family or those that live in your home or dorm room. If you reach a fever of 102, You should seek testing and care with-in 24 hours of first symptoms. Symptoms include sore throat, fatigue, body aches, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing.
